The Association Amici della Musica "Giuseppe Verdi" was founded in 1973 with the purpose of reviving an old town band tradition, completely forgotten during the war and the post-war period. The first group band dates back to the '30s, when the Gran Concerto Musicale "Cittą di Sannicandro di Bari", under the direction of great maestros, including Visconti and Marincola, performed in major centers in South Italy. Testimony of its artistic value is a concert performed EIAR (actually RAI) in 1930 and radio broadcast to all parts of Italy.
The Association Amici della Musica is also a school of music and promotes musical education providing lessons taught by young qualified teachers, graduates, with a lot of artists activities. Moreover, in recent years it has organized events such as music festivals of chamber music, the 1st and 2nd edition of the Master Class held by Konstantin Becker (1st french horn soloist of the Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice in Venice) in the Norman Castle of Sannicandro di Bari in 2004 and 2005. The Master Class is an occasion for the association to enhance artistic and cultural education in the metropolitan area of Bari, and its social and economic growth. It has been organizing the International French Horn Competition ""Federico II di Svevia" since 2006, involving several musicians all over the world.
At the moment the Associations has got 35 musicians from Sannicandro, who thanks to it improve their creativity.
